Throughout his time at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, one word was consistently thrown at our founding father: COMPETENT. Everything he did was "Good enough." Inspired by this heady praise, 'Dan' Sean Henry decided to go forth and spread his talents like butter across the bready surface of the Merseyside area.
Thus, the Competent Theatre Company was born...
In 2023, we are simply Competent - an unpretentious events company specialising in a diverse range of entertainments, including theatre, stand-up comedy, spoken word and quiz nights. We believe in the power of genuine personal engagement and are dedicated to stripping away the unnecessary layers that often surround event production. With us, it's all about authentic connections and real experiences shared with real people. We are proud to provide platforms for emerging artists to showcase their talents, learn and flourish. We're fuelled by our passion for the grassroots art and theatre scene in the North West and our mission is to contribute to its growth.

Founding father / Co-director
Dan is an actor and directing man from Dewsbury, West Yorkshiire. He trained at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and is currently represented by Urban Talent Actors in Manchester. You may recognise him from advertising campaigns for Fray Bentos pies and Albert Bartlett roast potatoes, but he doesn't mind if you don't.

Liss is an actor and producer from Peckham, London. Also trained at LIPA, she is represented by Steve Nealon Associates. When she's not performing, she can be found teaching and has recently skipped across Europe, facilitating at theatre camps for youths aged 5-13.
